THE FIRST NATIONALLY-STANDARDIZED, NORM-REFERENCED ASSESSMENT TO IDENTIFY SYMPTOMS, BEHAVIORS AND ASSOCIATED FEATURES OF AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS.
Sam Goldstein, Ph. D. and Jack A. Naglieri, Ph. D.
- Age Range: 2-18 years
- Time: 20 minutes
- Restricted Use: Level B- requires that the user has completed graduate-level courses in tests and measurement at a university or has received equivalent documented training.
The ASRS assists clinicians, school psychologists and other mental health professionals in the diagnostic process, using DSM-IV-TR symptom criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorders. When used with other assessment information, results from the ASRS help with:
- Diagnostic Decisions
- Treatment Planning
- Treatment Evaluation
- Response to Intervention Monitoring
Using a five-point Likert rating scale, parents, teachers and other caregivers are asked to evaluate how often specific behaviors are observed. Behavior areas include:
- Socialization
- Communication
- Atypical Language
- Behavioral Rigidity
- Sensory Sensitivity
- Self-Regulation
Two Versions
ASRS 2-5 is for ages 2 to 5, and ASRS 6-18 is for 6 to18 years. Short versions are available for both age ranges. The short version, 15-item screeners provide efficient evaluation of large numbers of children, and can be used for monitoring treatment progress. Three report types are available for all ASRS forms:
- Assessment Reports
- Comparative Reports
- Progress Reports
All forms can be scored using optional scoring software by entering responses from a completed paper-and-pencil administration into the software, or can be hand scored.
The ASRS includes a Total Score, a DSM-IV-TR Algorithm, three ASRS Scales and eight Treatment Scales.
